September Newsletter
We are open! After two years of planning, building, preparation and mounting excitement, the English International School opened its doors as planned on Monday 4 September. Orbital Education, our parent company, Director Elena Derzhitskaya and all the local staff have worked tirelessly to transform the building and turn it into a modern school. Trevor Wilson and Dino Vikas plugged away through the summer to get the curriculum and resources together, and the teaching staff team assembled at the end of August.
The children bounced through the door, right on cue, and have brought the building to life. Parents who have placed their trust in us were perhaps the most nervous at the start, and therefore had earned the right to the biggest smiles later in the week. My thanks to all the teams who have, together, made this all happen.
We had a delightful opening ceremony at the end of the first day, with our youngest (Camilla) and oldest (Stoyanka) doing the honours with the scissors and the ribbon, surrounded by green and cream balloons.
The first week has flown by, and the teachers have inspired with their enthusiasm and commitment. We have had a good share of teething troubles; but during last week and this, we are making slow but steady progress in all the tricky areas: bus timings, the catering, uniform, the games programme and the delivery of textbooks.
The bus service is almost running to time ( Moscow traffic prevents any guaranteed statement) , and the hot meals at lunch time are much appreciated. Parents have made fantastic efforts at anticipating the school dress code, and the boys and girls look great. Books are arriving at (almost) a daily basis, the classrooms are already being decorated with displays and pupils’ work. We are working on our sports teams, but we may not have major news for a little while. We are already using the nearby sports hall, and we are looking for a swimming pool booking, too.
A great start, with lots more to come: do come and see us!
With best wishes
Yours sincerely
