Web newsletter – November 2006
Welcome to EIS. The school is nearing a complete term, and there is lots to tell – and lots more to show, if you can come and see us. With a new school, everything that is taken for granted has to be set up, with fresh ideas and ready for the future.
The curriculum is in full flow, thanks to the enthusiasm of the staff, the willingness of the pupils and steadily improving resources. Our ICT room is very popular, for computing classes and many subject lessons, and both the senior and junior libraries are now in full use.
The children are looking ever smarter now that the school uniform has arrived, and our football team and their cheerleaders showed off their games kit in our first school fixture, with our neighbours in Novogireevo. The sports programme already offers football, basketball, dance, gymnastics and volleyball – at school and in a nearby sports hall, and we start swimming lessons next week. When winter comes, we are adding Cross Country Skiing, but for now, we have managed outdoor games almost the whole term. Fitness levels are improving.
Parents get a letter home every couple of weeks, and the monthly assessments will soon be reinforced by full end of term reports. The children are busy earning their “star” awards, and, for the record, the Wolves House are leading the competition. In the first inter-house competition, the junior boys’ table tennis was won by the Bears’ Roelof, and for the girls, Georgia won it for the Eagles.
After a few teething problems, the bus service is now working well, and serves three different parts of Moscow. We are close to resolving a persistent problem with the telephones, and will publish new numbers very soon – apologies for the inconvenience.

We have had very positive visits from Orbital Education in England, our UK parent company, who are very pleased with progress to date, and there are growing numbers of new pupils booked in for January. All parents (and grannies and nannies) are welcome to the Christmas Concert in the last week of term.
Two special bits of news: we are setting up a “Saturday Club” offering extra English for anyone aged 5-11, current EIS pupil or new to the school, which we hope will help all those wanting to speed up their English learning in very small groups, and we are offering a Summer School in July, to break up the long holiday and have some worthwhile fun. Again, this is open to all. Please contact us for details.
Best of all, enjoy the new photos on the website, or come and see the school – you will be most welcome.
