EIS
The English International School
Website newsletter – May 2007
Summer has
arrived at EIS, with the campus looking bright and green and with new
arrivals, both children and a pair of hoodie crows nesting next to the
front door. Also new is our prospectus, published in record time and
ready for the new term. Copies are available from school, or on line via
the front page of this website.
As an
experiment, we are offering an extended day on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays, the better to fit in lots of additional activities: play
rehearsals, football team training, cookery, chess, gardening, tennis and
photography, to name but a few. The extra time is available for anyone in
Y1-9, and we hope all will take advantage of this: everyone is signed up
and in a grip. The buses will set off for home at 1620. If this works, we
will continue next term; if the traffic makes it unworkable, we will look
for another way of offering more. As all the Y2s have been staying for care
club, rather than going home, we have incorporated that time into the
curriculum proper, and will do the same for Y1 in September. Care Club will
continue as an option for the Nursery and Reception. There is no charge for
any of these additional activities.
Due to
changes in Russian public holidays, we will need to teach on Saturday
9 June but Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 are public holidays. My thanks to
parents for an excellent turnout, with nobody missing other than for illness,
on 28 April when we also had a working saturday.
This term’s
physical education programme includes senior swimming up to 19 June, as well
as athletics (track and field), hockey, football, dance and gymnastics, and
maybe even some cricket.
Although it
is a short term, there are a lot of events planned. Amongst the special
events coming soon:
21
June afternoon school play “The Railway Children”
– in the Hall with a large cast
22 June on
school exams
4 July
afternoon junior dance/drama display, followed
by sports day for all
6 July
morning Prize Giving ceremony and the end
of term
9-20 July
Summer Club – optional and open to
all
The Summer
Club is now on its way. This is open to all 3-14 year olds, current EIS
pupils and anyone else who wants some educational fun in the summer holidays.
Full details are behind the ‘Extra’ button on the home page. In brief, we
will offer three sessions of learning in the mornings, for example art,
computing and creative English (with options for Russian and French tuition)
and a double helping of sports and games each afternoon. Groups will be age
related, and not bigger than 15 (apart from team games!)
It promises
to be an active summer.
