Our inaugural term has sped to a conclusion, with the
increasing number of children still covered in smiles and full of energy.
We must try harder to wear them out! We have given them sport at least
three times a week, including using an indoor sports hall, and recently a
swimming pool, for the older pupils. Next term, we will be keeping these,
and adding cross country skiing – a top item for Christmas lists.
The last week of term included an entertaining
Christmas Concert, very well attended by parents, grannies and nannies, and
a return visit from our neighbouring Russian school in Novogireevo, for
mixed indoor and outdoor games and a big tea. Honours were about even in
the sprints and the dancing. Amazingly, we have been able to continue with
outdoor sports right through the term.
The curriculum continues to fill out. The World
Studies course is our combined course that includes social education,
citizenship and religious studies & spirituality. It is a flexible
programme which helps children develop self awareness, respect for others
and to consider the bigger issues each person and the world face. In the
new year, we will start preparation for GCSE, as the Year 10 courses
commence in September 2007. Language is clearly one of the schools
strengths. The variation in language competences amongst the pupils is a
challenge, but we will be looking at ways to stretch the better and bring on
the beginners, in English, French and Russian.

Looking ahead, we will be offering a “Summer Club” in
July, for EIS pupils and newcomers, which will be a mixture of the lighter
parts of the curriculum with a lot of activities and exercise. All are
welcome.
Next term starts promptly on Tuesday 9 January,
although the staff will of course be in beforehand, getting everything ready
for the children.
Best wishes from all of us at EIS for a restful Christmas and New Year
Yours sincerely
